Veterinary Technician Assistant
Assist DVMs and veterinary technicians in the care of patients and clients.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor – Technical Services Department
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Assist DVMs with physical examinations and other exam room functions.
- Assist in preparation and dispensing of medications.
- Assist veterinary technicians with radiographs, surgical preparation, nursing comfort and care, treatments, procedures, and basic laboratory tests.
- Client communication.
- Accompany DVM on house calls.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Follow OSHA standards. Be able to find Material Safety Data Sheets quickly.
- Know and use standard medical and business abbreviations.
- Use proper medical terminology when speaking and writing.
- Understand the life cycle and pathology of common feline parasites (intestinal parasites, heartworms, fleas, ticks), and know the names of most common preventives, recommended treatments, and diagnostics.
- Possess good spelling abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience handling cats.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Must be able to read charts, computer screen and examine patients.
- Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with clients and other employees.
- Standing/walking approximately 90% of the time.
- Moderate lifting (up to 25 lbs.) approximately 20% of the time.
- Bending/kneeling approximately 20% of the time.
- Must be able to work all hours the hospital is open.
