    • Over Grooming in Cats

    Dear Boo:

    My cat Jinx has over-groomed her tummy to the point of nudity. Why is she doing this and what can I do to help?

    Dear Renee:

    Jinx could be overgrooming her stomach for several different reasons. Some cats have medical skin problems such as allergies, infections, or parasites. Occasionally a cat can have an internal problem, such as a bladder infection or inflammation or constipation, that she is trying to soothe by licking her belly. There are other cats that lick themselves bald due to anxiety or boredom.

    You should make an appointment for Jinx with your veterinarian to see which of these problems she has. Then your veterinarian can determine what treatment is best to make sure Jinx is comfortable.
